Who is Liuz Felipe Scolari?

Liuz Felipe Scolari or Felipão (“Big Phil”), born November 9, 1948 in Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Playing Career

Scolari played as a defender for Caxias, Juventude, Novo Hamburgo and CSA, some lower league clubs in Brazil.

He won nothing with his first 3 clubs until late in his career with CSA when he won the Alagoano state championship.

Managerial career

Scolari retired as a player in 1982 to become manager of his last club CSA where in his first season he won the Alagoano state championship.

After managing Juventude twice, Brasil de Pelotas and Al-Shabab he moved to Grêmio where he won the 1987 Gaúcho state championship.

After this Big Phil moved to Kuwait winning the  Kuwait Emir Cup, followed by becoming the manager of the kuwait national team to then win the 10th Gulf Cup. But because of the invasion of kuwait by Saddam Hussein, Scolari went back to Brazil to lead Criciúma to success in the Copa do Brasil.

in 1993 he returned to Grêmio but got criticised for “playing the ugly side of the beautiul game” reason being that his players were known for getting into brawls on the pitch. allthough he won six titles in 3 years featuring the Copa Libertadores in 1995 and the Brazilian Championship.he also reached the Intercontinental Cup, losing on penalties to Ajax.

in 1997 he became the manager of  Júbilo Iwata playing only eleven games to then move on to Palmeiras. leading them to the  Copa do Brasil, the Mercosur Cup and their first Copa Libertadores.

International management

In 2001 he became in charge on his native Brazil to win the FIFA World Cup beating Germany in the final 2-0 for thier fith title win.

in 2003 Phil beacme the manager on Euro 2004 host nation Portugal to beat England in the quater finals then beating Netherlands only to loose to Greece in the final.

 He also took them to the semi finals of the 2006 FIFA world cup, again knocking out England in the quater final to then loose to runners-up France in the semi final.

His last tournament with  Portugal before joining Chelsea FC was euro 2008 where he reached the semi final to loose to Germany.

On july 1st 2008 he joined Chelsea FC.

Fans are expected to see bad tempers and tantrums from the Brazillian and to look forward to the rivalry

Between himself and Sir Alex Ferguson. He played his first match against Guangzhou Pharmaceutical to win 4-0.

Fans have also been told they will see no more of the boring Chelsea and to see the new attacking Chelsea.

Scolari is fameous for his bad temper with a good example of this being when playing a qualifying match for Euro 2008 against Serbia, when Ivica Dragutinovic, slapped him on the hand, Scolari reacted by giving him a left hook in the face.
