World Cup Semifinals Preview

The quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup has concluded, with only four teams now remaining to compete for football’s biggest prize. France and Argentina are favourites to lift the trophy in Qatar but many are also fancying the chances of Morocco and Croatia following their recent performances. 

The prestigious tournament is generating a huge excitement among football fans who don’t want to miss any action by watching the games live online

Argentina vs Croatia

Argentina suffered a shocking 2-1 loss to Saudi Arabia in their opening group match but they have been excellent in the tournament since that setback. La Albiceleste breezed past Mexico and Poland before edging Australia with a 2-1 win in the round of 16. They faced a tough competition against Netherlands in the quarter-final as Wout Weghorst’s late fireworks took the game to penalties. But Lionel Scaloni’s side kept their composure to prevail in the shootout. 

They will now meet Croatia who have been the most resilient team in the tournament so far. Zlatko Dalic’s side will be bidding to make it to their second World Cup final in a row. They stunned tournament favourites Brazil in the quarterfinal, with the Blazers prevailing on penalties after Bruno Petkovic cancelled out the advantage of Neymar’s extra-time goal. 

France vs Morocco 

England’s World Cup journey came to an end in the quarterfinals as France edged them with a 2-1 victory. Aurelien Tchouameni scored a brilliant opener before Harry Kane restored parity from the spot early in the second-half. However, a superb header from Olivier Giroud got the defending champions back in front. 

Gareth Southgate’s side were presented with a golden opportunity to level the scores after Theo Hernandez’s foul gave them a penalty. But Kane blazed over the bar and hence France took another step towards defending their World Cup title. 

Didier Deschamps’ side will now come up against Morocco who have surprised everyone with their stunning performances so far in the tournament. They defeated Belgium and Canada in their group matches before outclassing Spain in the round of 16. 

The Atlas Lions went on to beat Portugal 1-0 to become the first African nation to reach the World Cup semi-final. Striker Youssef En-Nesyri’s first-half goal proved decisive as Morocco registered another huge victory in Qatar.
