How Manchester United May React Internally Over Latest Zinedine Zidane Noise

Zinedine Zidane has been a long-term managerial target for Manchester United since leaving Real Madrid in 2021.

The iconic Frenchman has been on United’s radar through the years with the Red Devils considering him on more than one occasion to take the reins.

Zizou was on the shortlist back before Erik ten Hag took the job in 2022 and was also an option before Ralph Rangnick became interim the year before that.

After the Dutchman’s interim replacement, Ruud van Nistelrooy, was ruled out, Zidane emerged again as a possible contender for the role before it was given to Ruben Amorim who remains in the dugout right now.

It may well be a case of a number of sliding door moments for Zidane and United which may never be settled with the coach taking over.

And that appears to be the case, at least for now, with Amorim still in situ and Zidane reportedly set to take on a new job having been out of work for four years.

Zinedine Zidane in line to become Fenerbahce manager

According to reports in Turkey, club giants Fenerbahce have held initial talks with the Frenchman’s camp as they look to bring in a replacement for Jose Mourinho who departed earlier this summer.

Mourinho is on the lookout for a new club now but Fener may have their next head coach if these reports are to be believed.

One outlet, Sabah, claims that there has been discussions with Fenerbahce, while another, Oksijen, reports that a preliminary agreement has already been struck.

It is a move for Zidane which comes as a bit of a shock given his previous admission over where he would prefer to work.

The World Cup winner has previously revealed how he could not work in an environment where he does not fully understand the language and it is believed he does not speak Turkish.

Why Zidane has never worked in Premier League

That was also an issue for United back in 2022 when he said he didn’t speak fluent English which would also prevent him from taking over at the Theatre of Dreams and doing a proper job.

Quoted at the time, Zidane had said: “I know that there are coaches who go to clubs without speaking the language, but I work in a different way.”

With Amorim’s side sitting ninth in the Premier League division after last season’s 15th place finish, the Portuguese may have some explaining to do if he cannot improve his side’s fortunes.

But United would – if they were to seriously consider Zidane – have to move quickly, it seems.

The likelihood is Zidane will not become United boss any time soon and Amorim will keep his post.
