
William Gallas is 30 years old and he is currently the captain of Arsenal. He plays at centre-back, but can also play as full-back. Gallas started his career at Caen in 1995, joining Marseille in 1997. At this club he made 111 appearances and scored 5 goals, before making the move to the Premiership. Gallas joined Russian-owned Chelsea for £6.2 million, scoring 12 goals in the 159 appearance he made in the 5 seasons that he spent at the club. At Chelsea, he won the Premier League twice (2004/05 and 2005/06), the Community Shield 2005 and the Carling Cup 2005. Gallas joined Arsenal in 2006, being involved in a swap deal for Ashley Cole who joined Chelsea.

Gallas made his international debut on the 12th October 2002, featuring in a Euro 2004 qualifier 5-0 thrashing of Slovenia. Until before the Euro 2008 preparation, he has made 60 appearances for France and scored twice. He is a regular player for Les Blues, forming a defensive partnership with Lilian Thuram. Among the awards that he won with France are the 2003 Confederations Cup and being runner-ups in the 2006 World Cup.
