£51 Million Duo Set PSG Up For World Domination

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva have completed their transfers from AC Milan to PSG, where they will aim to win Ligue1 and challenge for the Champions League next season.

The deal, reported to be in the region of £51 million, includes an incredible pay packet for Ibrahimovic where he will earn 14 million Euros a year. Thiago Silva accepted a contract worth 7.5 million Euros a year, becoming the second most expensive defender in the world behind Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand.

Napoli’s Ezequiel Lavezzi and Pescera’s Marco Verratti have also completed their moves to PSG, totalling their summer spending to be in the region of £88 million.

PSG could only manage to finish second in Ligue1 last season, after splashing out 42 million Euros on Argentinean star Javier Pastore , along with fellow midfielders Jeremy Menez, Mohamed Sissoko and Thiago Motta. They also clinched Chelsea defender Alex and Maxwell from Barcelona.

PSG have been granted with an almost never ending cash supply since being taken over by Qatar Investment Authority, with Nasser Al-Khelaifi leading the club as the chairman. The Qatari owner’s goal is to turn Paris Saint-Germain into a European power.

Ibrahimovic stated that he has joined “the dream team” after completing his move on Wednesday. He went on to say “They will do everything to win and I want to be a part of that. I’m going to be playing with the best players in the world. They’ve also bought the best defender in the world, Thiago Silva, and as long as I have him behind me I don’t need to look back.”

“Now that the dream has become reality everyone is talking about Ligue1. Everyone should be positive about this. But it’s up to us to prove it now. We have to win.”

“I came here because I see the future here. I don’t see the future in Italy,” he continued. “What happens in Italy is their problem now. Losing two big stars like me and Thiago Silva is a big thing for the club and the championship.”

Thiago Silva voiced his opinion on the transfer from Brazil’s Olympic training camp. “I’m happy with the transfer, but sad that I have had to say goodbye to Milan”

“My transfer to Paris was not a decision taken by me – that’s 100 per cent certain”

“I’m not going to PSG to earn more money. I’m not a mercenary, but I want to say sorry to the Milan fans.”

The signings of Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic sees Paris Saint-Germain enter phase two of their “world domination” objective. The first phase objective was to win Ligue1. Having missed out on the title by 3 points to Montpellier, Al-Khelaifi has aggressively spent in the transfer market this year to ensure that they are champions in the 2012/2013 season. Phase two includes challenging for Europe’s biggest prize, the Champions League, and with the team that Carlo Ancelotti and the Qatari owners have put together, I don’t believe many will bet against them winning the competition within the next few years.
