Famous Footballers You’ve Met

So, with City having no midweek game, there is time for a special edition of this blog. I’ve decided to make the theme of this article: ‘Famous Footballers You’ve Met’. Basically, I will list some of the more distinguished names I’ve encountered from the footballing world, and then anyone else can post a comment at the end, detailing who they have come across.

Sven Goran Erikkson: I met the former Man City and England manager outside a restaurant in the centre of Manchester and congratulated the Swede on his fantastic start as manager. He seemed a nice enough chap, stopping for a short chinwag with his wife, along with fellow City coach Tord Grip.

Elano Blumer: The Brazilian playmaker visited my school last year for a charity football match. Surprisingly small in stature but full of trickery and good manners, Elano made a healthy impression on me.

George Weah: The current Liberian politician was City’s captain when I was mascot for a pre-season match against Oldham. A world-class player to lead you out, a penalty scored past Nicky Weaver, and a thumping City victory. It turned out to be a good day!

Morten Gamst Pedersen: I came across Morten in the same restaurant where I saw Sven, although I must confess that I didn’t know who he was. The blonde-haired midfielder was being interviewed by Sky Sports News just after signing for Blackburn, and he certainly had a star presence.

Nedum Onuoha: Met him once in town, when we were both in the City store at the Arndale Centre. Seems a very pleasant and friendly chap.

Arsene Wenger: Not just Wenger, but all the Arsenal first-team squad were at the Lowry Hotel when I saw them. Had a brief chat with Pat Rice about our hatred of Manchester United.

Javier Garrido’s parents: When I was in Santander for City’s UEFA Cup match against Racing Santander, Garrido’s parents were sitting just seats away from me, so, in my dodgy Spanish, I asked them for their autographs. They duly obliged and we had a lovely little conversation.

Phil Neville: Just like Elano, Neville visited my school, albeit courtesy of a helicopter, in order to promote his charity. Didn’t get the chance to speak to him, but wouldn’t have wanted to anyway (former United b*****d)
