Dayot Upamecano could be on his way to the Premier League before the end of the transfer window this summer.
The Frenchman’s contract at Bayern Munich expires next season and the Bundesliga giants are pushing in a bid to convince the central defender to put pen to paper on a new deal.
Nothing has been agreed to this point, however, and that has alerted clubs in England’s top flight to his potential availability.
There has also reportedly been barely any progress made in these discussions which signals a possible exit for the 26-year-old.
According to transfer insider in Germany, Christian Falk, Manchester United are keeping tabs on the progress of Upamecano’s plan as he is believed to be on their shortlist of priorities in the market.
Dayot Upamecano has been offered to Manchester United
Falk also claims United’s interest in the player is making conversations between Upamecano and Bayern more difficult as an exit avenue opens.
It is being reported that the player’s agent, Moussa Sissoko, has offered his services to the Red Devils as he ponders his next move and that would suit both parties.
The Premier League outfit snapped up two defenders last summer in the form of Lenny Yoro and Noussair Mazraoui but they are keen to add more.
That would come following their movement in the window to bolster their attacking options under manager Ruben Amorim.
The boss has brought in Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko to Old Trafford so far but he wants, now, to add to his backline.
In midfield, United would also be looking to add at least one new body with Brighton star Carlos Baleba on their radar.
Who Manchester United want to sign in summer transfer window
It would be a new look United squad following their miserable 15th place finish in last season’s campaign domestically but they still have the spine of their team intact in Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire involved.
Gianluigi Donnarumma is one player United want to add following Paris Saint Germain boss Luis Enrique’s decision to leave the goalkeeper at home for the UEFA Super Cup Final vs Tottenham.
The Italian also has interest from Manchester City which could derail United’s efforts. Marc Guehi and Brann defender Eivind Helland have also been linked with the Theatre of Dreams.
Defender Maguire, meanwhile, hopes his side can banish their demons from last year and use this season as a fresh slate.
“The lads are working hard and it’s a great atmosphere in the place,” the 32-year-old Englishman said.
“We want to be successful, we’re doing everything we can to be successful. Sometimes we know it’s not been good enough for a recent [period] and we’ve not given our fans as much.
“I feel like it’s almost a little bit of a fresh start and hopefully this start is a good start.”
