Manuel Akanji Clamps Transfer Guru Over Manchester City Exit ‘Agreement’

Manuel Akanji has shot down suggestions that a deal to take him to Galatasaray is imminent.

The Swiss centre-half, 30, has interest from Galatasaray in this summer’s transfer window with the Turkish giants hoping to bring him in.

He played 40 times for the Citizens last season but he was not involved in City’s opening Premier League matchday victory over Wolves at Molyneux despite being available on the bench.

Even when Pep Guardiola brought off John Stones in the second-half to offer the Englishman a rest, it was Abdukodir Khusanov who deputised alongside Ruben Dias and not Akanji.

Galatasaray, according to transfer king Fabrizio Romano via his social media channels, have made an offer to City to take their player and that was reportedly being considered.

But after the same journalist provided what he claimed to be the latest news regarding the transfer situation, Akanji moved quickly to clamp the inaccuracies.

Romano took to Instagram to share that City had accepted a bid of around £15million for their defender who then only had discussions and negotiations on a contract to get through.

However the international stopper refused to ignore the post and made it clear he had heard nothing of the alleged accepted bid.

In response to Romano’s post, Akanji wrote: “Don’t know anything about that,” accompanied by a shrugging emoji.

This was brought up on Reddit by fans who also noted that the Italian reporter had deleted his post despite it racking up more than 129,000 likes.

It had previously been claimed that Akanji’s representation had been sounded out by Gala as they looked to make a move happen.

But now this response from the player has thrown the whole move and accuracy of the report into disarray as it is now not known whether or not interest and contact being made is legitimate.

Akanji was wanted by Galatasaray who had bid for Ederson, his teammate at Manchester City.

That would have taken the Swiss with the Brazilian to team up again at RAMS Park after years together at the Etihad.

Gianluigi Donnarumma is a Man City target to replace Ederson should he depart with or without Akanji but neither are the only players to leave City during this window.
