Rio Ngumoha Wages Rocket at Liverpool but He’s Still Not One of the Top 7 Highest Paid Teenagers in World Football

Rio Ngumoha has cashed in on his impressive start to the season by signing a new contract with Liverpool that has seen his wages rocket. The England U19 star, who only turned 17 in late August, put pen to paper on his first professional deal on Thursday.

His new contract was signed less than 48 hours after he started in Tuesday night’s 2-1 win over Southampton in the Carabao Cup. That was Ngumoha’s fifth senior appearance for Liverpool. His first came in last season’s FA Cup when he became the youngest player ever to start a match for the Reds — aged just 16 years and 135 days.

He scored his first goal for the club last month — four days before his 17th birthday.

Rio Ngumoha wages rocket

Before signing his professional deal, Ngumoha was earning £14,400 per year — just over £275 per week.

It is understood that his new contract, which ties him to Anfield until June 2028, is worth £52,000 per year, equating to about £1,000 per week.

That figure is the maximum Liverpool allow for a first-year professional under their structured wage system. However, it does not include performance-related bonuses, which could see the youngster earn significantly more depending on appearances, goals and trophies.

Rio Ngumoha will eventually earn much more

Ngumoha is one of the highest-rated teenagers in world football.

Having already featured in Liverpool’s recent 3-2 win over Atletico Madrid, he is also one of the brightest Champions League wonderkids to watch this season.

This new contract is almost certainly just a stepping stone to a much bigger deal. If Ngumoha continues to perform well and reaches anywhere near his full potential then it will not be long before he is earning many millions per year, rather than thousands.

How does Rio Ngumoha’s new wage compare against other top teenage footballers?

Although Ngumoha’s new contract has seen his wages increase by over 260%, he is still earning nowhere near the highest-paid teenagers in world football.

Lamine Yamal, the highest-paid teenager in our list, is estimated to be on £275,000 per week at Barcelona — that’s 275 times more than Ngumoha.

Barcelona have two players in our top-seven teenage wage list. Pau Cubarsi — who is rated as the third most valuable centre-back on the planet with a price tag of £90m — sits at No. 6 with an estimated weekly wage of £65,000.

What’s next for Rio Ngumoha?

For Ngumoha, the numbers are only part of the story. The pathway is clear. He needs to keep stacking first-team minutes and continue making an impact when called upon.

Do that and Liverpool’s structured wage system will work in his favour — bonuses this season, then a major uplift when he negotiates his next deal.

Competition for places in Liverpool’s forward line is fierce, but Ngumoha’s versatility and fearlessness have already earned trust. If he continues to deliver in big moments, he won’t just narrow the wage gap with the names above — he’ll put himself in the conversation as one of the most valuable teenagers in the game.
