Jack Grealish Ruled Out for Rest of the Season Ending England World Cup Hopes

Everton have confirmed that Jack Grealish will miss the rest of the season after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in his foot.

The on-loan winger from Manchester City is expected to require surgery, which also ends his hopes of playing in the 2026 World Cup with England.

Manager David Moyes provided the update following consultations with medical specialists.

“We believe he is probably going to need surgery,” Moyes said. “And it probably rules him out for the rest of the season.”

Jack Grealish injury

Grealish, 30, has been an important figure for Everton since joining on loan from Manchester City.

His performances have helped the club climb into the Premier League’s top half and put them in contention for a European place.

The injury is a major blow for Grealish personally, as it almost certainly rules him out of England’s World Cup squad under Thomas Tuchel.

Moyes expressed his disappointment for the player but said it was too soon to confirm whether Grealish will play for Everton again.

Jack Grealish Everton future

Grealish joined Everton on loan from Manchester City, with a £50 million option to buy included in the deal.

That figure was considered unrealistic given he will have just one year remaining on his contract at the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Everton are covering around £12 million of Grealish’s wages for the duration of the loan.

Moyes noted that the financial details and injury make it uncertain whether a permanent move will happen.

A major boost for Moyes, however, is tying down their star player to a long-term future after James Garner signed a new Everton contract.

Grealish injury timeline

The England international had been feeling discomfort in his foot for about two weeks.

Initially, the problem was thought to be a minor calf issue sustained during Everton’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa on January 18.

The new diagnosis came as a shock to both player and club.

Despite the setback, Grealish had been influential in Everton’s performances, helping the team challenge for a European finish.

The club may look to dip into the transfer market, with Everton interested in full-back Femi Seriki as well as the highly-sought after Harry Wilson.

On the pitch, Everton will look to continue their campaign without him as they travel to Brighton & Hove Albion, with central defender Michael Keane returning from suspension.
