5 Potential Ange Postecoglou Transfer Options For Nottingham Forest January Window

Ange Postecoglou of Nottingham Forest

Ange Postecoglou was named Nottingham Forest manager this week but has little time to get his feet under the desk.

The former Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur boss will be right into the dugout this weekend in what is expected to be a barnstorming 90 or so minutes against Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday in the 12.30pm kick-off.

Postecoglou’s arrival comes following Nuno Espirito Santo’s sacking by club president Evangelos Marinakis with a fractured relationship between the pair believed to be at the centre of the decision.

The timing might have been better for Forest, though, with the transfer window finally shut earlier this month and the acquisitions all brought to the City Ground as Nuno signings.

The likes of Omari Hutchison, Dan Ndoye, James McAtee and Dilane Bakwa all joined with one project in mind but will now have to adapt to another and the guts of £230million spent.

For Postecoglou, the Australian will have to figure out the squad himself early on, but he will have January to look towards his own recruits with signings to be made in a few months time.

But who could Big Ange look towards when he finally gets the chance? We already know Postecoglou wants his own backroom staff.

We had a look at five players Forest might consider under the Greek-born 60-year-old with some options coming from Scotland as well as other Premier League outfits.

Daizen Maeda

The versatile Celtic attacker was signed by Postecoglou at Parkhead and he has been a revelation in Glasgow. His high press is incredible as is his workrate and he is impossible to stop at times.

Maeda wants out of Celtic and had a bid rejected in the summer window after Brendan Rodgers’ side could not sign a replacement in time. Had the chance to go to the Bundesliga but could be snapped up at a cut-price in January by his old gaffer.

Richarlison

Another of Ange’s former players, the Brazilian seems to be linked with a move out of Spurs during every window. Chris Wood is now 33 years of age and might not fit in with what Postecoglou fancies.

A move for the attacker might be just what both parties ordered.

Reo Hatate

Celtic’s classy midfielder has been a transfer target for Premier League clubs in the past with Brighton reportedly having an offer booted into touch as they tested the Hoops’ resolve.

Hatate was also signed in Glasgow by Ange and yet another reunion – not the last one on our list, either – may well appeal to both sides of a deal.

Hatate has three years left on his current deal so might cost as much as £20m but for big-spending Forest that would be pocket change.

Kaoru Mitoma

The manager attempted to sign the attacking playmaker more than once before the Seagulls got there.

Would offer something different to Forest’s attackers and finally see Ange link up with his preferred target.

Cameron Carter-Vickers is an honourable mention more than anything else.

Forest have a number of centre-half options already within their ranks but the USA international was a stalwart for Ange’s Celtic side and remains at the heart of their record-breaking back four now.

The 29-year-old wouldn’t break the bank, either.
