Arsenal – Who will persuade RVP to stay

It’s come to that time of the season when everyone is starting to sum up their transfer aspirations. While Wenger has the transfer policy of buying pre-pubescent “wonderkids” and selling them on before they’ve fully passed puberty, he’ll definitely need to pull his finger out if he is to persuade Robin van Persie to stay.

While it’s easy to forget that this is Mikel Arteta’s first season with the club, the £10million transfer is still one of the largest in the last 5 years…

Transfers over the last 5 years include;
2010/11 [£16.720.000]
Laurent Koscielny (Lorient) 11.000.000 £
Sébastien Squillaci (FC Sevilla) 5.720.000 £

09/10 [£8.800.000]
Thomas Vermaelen (Ajax) 8.800.000 £

08/09 [£35.332.000]
Andrey Arshavin (Zenit S-Pb) 14.520.000 £
Samir Nasri (Marseille) 14.080.000 £
Amaury Bischoff (W. Bremen II) 264.000 £
Aaron Ramsey (Cardiff) 5.632.000 £
Mickaël Silvestre (Man Utd) 836.000 £

07/08 [£25.916.000]
Pedro Botelho (Figueirense Futebol Clube U19) 1.056.000 £
Bacary Sagna (Auxerre) 7.920.000 £
Eduardo (Dinamo Zagreb) 10.560.000 £
Łukasz Fabiański (Legia Warszawa) 3.828.000 £
Lassana Diarra (Chelsea) 2.552.000 £

06/07 [£13.266.000]
Tomas Rosicky (Bor. Dortmund) 8.800.000 £
Denílson (São Paulo) 4.400.000 £
Rui Fonte (Sporting Lisbon U19) 66.000 £

Over this period, Arsenal have still turned a profit making almost the same amount of money from the Cesc Fabregas deal as they spent in 2008/9. Personally, I would love to see some new blood in our squad the young talent Arsenal is so famous for nurturing. Even if Wenger decides to make 2 transfers this summer of (fairly) young but still European-ally famous it might convince our talismanic captain to stay. While I’m hopeful of Eden Hazard, Jan Vertonghen and possibly even a more established left back… but in reality Lukas Podolski and Yann M’vila would probably be enough to end our trophy drought.

What I imagine Arsenal's lineup will be come the new season
