Artur Boruc, Poland Star Player for Euro 2008

Artur Boruc

Artur Boruc will be the star man for Poland in this year’s European Championships. Poland’s performance in the competition depends ultimately upon the goalkeeper’s form during the competition. Artur was born on the 20th February 1980 and currently plays for Scottish club Celtic. Although his rivals for the number one shirt at Poland have signed for big clubs, they haven’t yet improved enough to earn the Poland No 1 shirt. Kuszczak and Fabianski have signed for Man Utd and Arsenal respectively.

Boruc is 1.93 metres tall and has played in 32 games for his home-nation. He makes the sign of the cross before every match, which led to the nickname ‘The Holy Goalie’. Occasionally, he has trouble with the opposition fans for the signs directed towards them and his celebrations in front of them. On a good day, he may do miracles, be a thorn in the side of the opposition and keep a clean sheet. Poland will be hoping for these good days when they play in the group stage against Austria, Germany and Croatia.
