Aston Villa are in the midst of a nightmare run of form to begin the new season – but their luck might finally be ready to change.
Unai Emery’s Villans have had a dreadful start to the Premier League season and currently sit in 19th spot with only Wolves worse off in the division.
Villa have managed a grand total of two points from their opening four fixtures with both games coming in goalless draws with Newcastle United and Everton respectively.
In fact, Emery’s side are yet to register a goal in the competition and have been woeful in front of goal with Ollie Watkins and others struggling to find the back of the net.
Emery also watched his players stumble in the third round of the Carabao Cup against Brentford earlier this week where they were knocked out of the competition on penalties following a 1-1 draw in normal time. Liverpool loanee Harvey Elliot scored on that evening.
When Youri Tielemans will return for Aston Villa
It has certainly been a nightmare start but it has come at a time when Aston Villa have been without a number of their key talents who have always come up big for the club in terms of creativity and in forward areas.
But now the Spanish head coach has explained how the squad will soon welcome back Belgian playmaker Youri Tielemans who has been missing since he hobbled off against the Toffees.
It may only have been one-and-a-half matches he has been sidelined, but Tielemans is such a vital player for the club and is a huge miss when he does not feature.
Captain John McGinn has also been shuffled around which has altered the way the club play and their tactical plan they like to use.
Why Villa have struggled this season so far
Tielemans returning will be a boost with Villa also hoping to be able to welcome back Boubacar Kamara who did make the most recent matchday squad even if he did not start.
Ross Barkley is yet to make an appearance so far this campaign which can also be considered a disappointment for his club who have relied on the former Chelsea star in previous seasons.
He has been dealing with personal issues and may still be out of action beyond this weekend.
Asked when Tielemans may make his comeback for Villa, Emery was honest as he confirmed the 28-year-old was ahead of schedule where his return to action was concerned.
“It is better than we expected,” he replied. “Maybe in one or two weeks he will be available.”
