Four Barcelona Players on Yellow Alert Ahead of Champions League Clash Against Slavia

Barcelona Coach Hansi Flick

Four Barcelona players face the risk of suspension as they prepare for Wednesday’s crucial Champions League clash against Slavia Prague.

Barcelona are eyeing automatic qualification for the Round of 16, but they have to win their remaining two matches to have a chance of finishing in the top eight.

Four Barcelona Players One Yellow Away From Missing Last Champions League Game

Barcelona travel to Fortuna Arena in Prague for their penultimate Champions League league-phase match on Wednesday night.

They are currently in 15th place in the table, but a victory would see them leapfrog Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, and Manchester City in the rankings. In a game of such importance, adrenaline often takes the wheel, leading to silly fouls and bookings.

Four Barcelona players do not have that luxury, as they sit just one yellow card away from missing the final league-phase match against FC Copenhagen.

Frenkie de Jong, Fermin Lopez, Gerard Martin, and Marc Casado have all been booked twice already this season. A third against Slavia Prague will result in a one-game suspension.

De Jong and Lopez are likely to start against Slavia on Wednesday, and have to tread extra carefully to avoid a booking.

Lamine Yamal has already seen three yellow cards and will miss the crucial Champions League tie. Barcelona bring a significantly weakened side to Prague and would not want to face similar issues against Copenhagen.

Jules Kounde, Dani Olmo, and Alejandro Balde have also seen one yellow card each in the UEFA Champions League. Since yellow cards are only reset after the quarter-finals, these players also need to be cautious in the coming matches.

Hansi Flick Explains What Barca Must Improve Against Slavia Prague

Barcelona suffered a 2-1 defeat at Real Sociedad in LaLiga on Sunday night. It put an end to their 11-game winning run in all competitions and allowed Real Madrid to bring the gap down to just one point.

The Blaugrana face another crucial away trip on Wednesday night, and Hansi Flick has explained how they could fare better.

I am disappointed with Sunday’s result, but this is football,” said Flick.

It’s better to lose like that than with a poor performance. It gives us more confidence to believe in what we do, but we have to be more clinical in front of the goal.

With Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres ruled out, it will be interesting to see how the new-look Barca attack goes about its business.

Barcelona have faced Slavia Prague two times in the Champions League. Both meetings came in the group stage of the 2019/20 season. Barcelona drew the first one 0-0 at home before beating them 2-1 in Prague.
