David Bentley, 23, has had a medical at White Hart Lane, after Tottenham and Blackburn agreed a fee for the England international. Spurs have called a news conference tomorrow morning, to possibly announce the signing of the winger. Aaron Lennon has recently stated his desire to remain in North London, but it seems that he has been made surplus to requirements by boss, Juande Ramos. The two will now have to compete for a Tottenham place as well as an England place. Lennon has more pace than his counterpart, but David Bentley seems keen to mimick David Beckham, as for England, he steps forward to take all corners, and sends in crosses from deep positions, whereas Lennon whips crosses in from the byline.
“I spoke to the Spurs chairman last night and we agreed a fee and a deal in principal for David,” said Blackburn chairman, John Williams. Tottenham also seem to be in negotiations with Russian second-striker Andrei Arshavin to replace Robbie Keane. But Dos Santos’ performance in his free-role against Norwich on Monday proved that he has the potential to fill the void left by Keane.
