Can Cappello continue to ignore Newcastle’s Nolan?

England’s central midfield position has been dominated over the last few years by Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard with Parker, Wilshere and Barry being the other players in with a shout of starting but what about the leading English midfield scorer? Kevin Nolan has scored more goals than any other Englishman this season other than Darren Bent with two more than England’s star striker Wayne Rooney. Should this not guarantee him a place in Capello’s squad?

The Newcastle skipper has been in outstanding form this season and has enjoyed his most prolific year in the top flight ever with 12 goals and their is still 8 games to add to his tally. He was named captain at the start of the season and scored two in the second game of the season against villa and scored his first Premiership hat-trick against arch rivals Sunderland in a 5-1 rout. All this after he was named Championship player of the season last year with 18 goals to his name as he fired the Magpies back to the big league at the first time of asking. This has still not been enough to convince Capello that he deserves his first ever call up at the age of 28.

Looking at Capello’s choices for the matches against Wales and Ghana is their anyone who has been in better form ? Lampard by his standard isn’t having a great season with only six goals to his name for Chelsea and at 32 is four years older than Nolan. As we all know its goals that win games and the big part of Nolan’s game is the ability to be in the right place at the right time with his poaching from corners and free kicks resulting in plenty of chances.

With Cappello now calling up Andy Carroll is their anyone better at getting on to his knock-downs than the man who did it so effectively in their time together at Newcastle? The Toon army and the local journo’s are calling for him to get his first cap.
