CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A wonderful football game came to an end: a happy ending. World’s best player Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring from a header, with Frank Lampard equalising after two deviations by the Man Utd defence, just before the teams went in for the half-time break. The second half was goalless, which necessitated an extra 30 mins to be played in the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow. Players were getting exhausted, which could be seen from the number of players suffering cramps.

The pressure was also getting to the players, with a small fight developing, as a cause of a fair play throw-in. Drogba was seen slapping Vidic on the face in the 26th extra time minute, something which the excellent referee Lubos Michel did not miss. Drogba was sent off and Chelsea’s woes were only about to start. The game went to a penalty shootout. Of all the players, it was the mighty Cristiano Ronaldo who missed his penalty (3rd round), when he is considered the regular penalty-taker at United. All looked like it was going Chelsea’s way. Until something happened…

It was the 5th penalty. United went first and scored it through the Portuguese Nani, who showed that he can control the pressure of a Champions League Final. It was Chelsea’s captain’s turn to take the last penalty that would give the Champions League trophy to the Londoners. Terry started his run-in…….and he slipped! His penalty hit the post and bounced off. Van der Sar was delighted, after he missed to go to the correct side of the penalty kick, but still got lucky.

The 6th round of penalties was scored by both team, Anderson for United and Kalou for Chelsea. It was the 7th round that decided the tight contest. The Manchester United legend, Ryan Giggs scored his penalty. Nicholas Anelka was the selected penalty-taker. He stepped up…..this time Edwin went to the right side and SAVED Anelka’s penalty. Ballack was devastated, Terry was crying, Lampard was nearly crying, Grant had a resigned (unhappy…but not worth mentioning as he’s always like that) look on his face. Chelsea were the losers. MANCHESTER UNITED ARE THE 2008 CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE (in Roman Abramovich’s home nation!)
