Chelsea and AC Milan have reached an agreement for the permanent transfer of forward Christopher Nkunku in a deal worth €42 million (£36.2m) plus a sell-on clause.
The France international has been granted permission to travel to Italy with personal terms already agreed.
Milan had been exploring the move for several weeks, with Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig also showing interest before the Serie A side sealed the deal.
Nkunku to Leave Chelsea for Milan
Nkunku, 27, was left out of Enzo Maresca’s opening two Premier League matchday squads amid the expectation that he would leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
Since joining Chelsea in 2023, he has made 62 appearances, scoring 18 goals and providing five assists.
Last season, he featured 43 times across all competitions, netting 14 goals and playing a key role in six of the Blues’ seven Club World Cup games.
Milan, who finished eighth in Serie A last season and lost their opening league fixture of 2025-26, had also looked into deals for Victor Boniface of Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting CP’s Conrad Harder, though neither transfer materialised.
Milan Transfer News
The Rossoneri’s business may not stop with Nkunku.
Milan have entered the fray for Manuel Akanji, as they look to reinforce their defence, but face competition from Crystal Palace for the Manchester City centre-back.
The Swiss defender is out of Pep Guardiola’s plans at City, and Milan see him as an ideal partner to bolster their backline as part of a wider summer reshaping.
Chelsea Transfer Updates
Nkunku is not the only player set to depart Stamford Bridge before the window closes.
As detailed in our Premier League players that could still leave before the transfer window closes, Nicolas Jackson is close to joining Bayern Munich on an initial loan deal despite interest from Aston Villa and Newcastle United.
The Blues will also look to move on Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell, while Bournemouth are weighing up a move for defender Axel Disasi.
Several younger players are expected to secure loan moves too, with Sam Rak-Sakyi, Alex Matos and Donnell McNeilly among those likely to head out before deadline day.
The final few days of the market could bring a flurry of Chelsea exits.
While outgoings dominate the headlines, Chelsea remain focused on strengthening their attack.
A £40 million deal for Alejandro Garnacho is close to completion, with the Manchester United winger set to cross the divide.
The Blues have also monitored Xavi Simons, though Tottenham Hotspur could yet hijack that move as they seek reinforcements of their own.
With Nkunku on the verge of leaving and multiple others expected to follow, it promises to be a dramatic finish to Chelsea’s transfer window as they look to reshape the squad under Maresca.
