Tottenham have had more than one transfer attempt hijacked this summer – now they are trying one of their own.
The North London club have had to watch over the past few weeks as at least two transfer targets moved to their rivals, Arsenal, with not long in the window remaining.
We told you how Spurs were interested in Eberechi Eze as the Crystal Palace star got ready to make a big money move after thriving with the Eagles for five years.
Thomas Frank wanted the England international in the door at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but the 27-year-old would instead make what was a dream move to the Gunners in a £64million switch.
Tottenham rival Chelsea to sign RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons
Spurs were also said to be interested in Ecuador defender Piero Hincapie but now he also looks ready to move to the Emirates in a £55m deal as they chase the Premier League title again this term.
But if Daniel Levy has been trumped to signings this window already, the savvy businessman has for the first time attempted to fire back on his manager’s behalf if reports this morning are to be believed.
According to BILD in Germany, Spurs have made an enquiry to RB Leipzig for Dutch superstar Xavi Simons as they consider a swoop for the playmaker.
Simons is believed to have told the Bundesliga outfit of his desire to make a move to play in the Premier League and more than one club have registered their interest.
Spurs are keen on Simons while they also still like Manchester City winger Savinho.
But to land the 22-year-old, their offer would have to be strong considering the long-term contact Leipzig and Simons’ camp has had with Chelsea.
Why Chelsea have delayed signing Simons
The Blues have been desperate to bring the player to Stamford Bridge and have not made any secret about their appreciation of his talents.
Simons, too, has been hopeful of making the transfer happen but that could potentially all have changed considering Spurs’ approach.
According to multiple reports online, Chelsea have been forced to wait before they can push forward with an effort for Simons.
The wait is over their desire to ship out their deadwood in order to free up funds and it is believed they are prioritising that at this moment in time.
That delay has opened the door to Spurs to possibly ride in before the end of the summer transfer window.
Chelsea also want to sign Manchester United’s winger Alejandro Garnacho but find themselves in the same position as with Simons.
Spurs, meanwhile, are interested in Nico Paz of Como.
