Darren Bent offers his view on Liverpool’s interest in Paul Pogba

Former England striker Darren Bent has offered his view on Paul Pogba’s future as the Frenchman’s career at Manchester United comes to a close.

Pogba will become a free agent when his contract at Old Trafford expires on July 1, with several household European clubs already on his tail.

Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain have displayed their interest in the France international.

However, the 29-year-old could be handed a lifeline in the Premier League as Liverpool reportedly consider hijacking the abovementioned trio’s bid to land Pogba this summer.

Jurgen Klopp plans to hold talks with the player to discuss what would be one of the most controversial Premier League transfers in recent years.

At least, that is what Bent believes.

“You say Klopp and Pep wouldn’t touch him [Pogba], I bet they’ve probably looked at the scenario and I bet they’ve had a conversation with him,” Bent told talkSPORT via the Liverpool ECHO.

“You know what all great managers are like, they always think that even though that player has been a problem elsewhere, I can get the best out of him. I can guarantee you that Pep and Klopp think they can get the best out of any player on the planet.”

Even though he failed to deliver at Man United since his blockbuster return from Juventus in 2016, Pogba remains one of the most highly-rated playmakers in the market.

He boasts an eye-catching CV, having won the World Cup and four Serie A titles with the Bianconeri before sealing a lucrative €105m return to Old Trafford.

At his peak powers, not many midfielders in the world are superior to Pogba.

He is a top player, and his skills are in high demand, even though he faltered at United.

There is a feeling he could regain his best form outside Manchester, with Juventus at the head of the queue to snap him up this summer.

Madrid and PSG are also in the race, but watch out for Liverpool.

Klopp is on the lookout for a new creative midfielder, despite his midfield talent bursting at the seams.

The German manager has turned Anfield into one of the most attractive destinations in Europe.

Not even Pogba would stay immune to the potential call from Liverpool, even though such turn of events appears far-fetched at this point.

With Sadio Mane set to leave Merseyside in the summer, the Reds will need another high-profile name to fill the void.

Pogba and Mane are different types of players. Yet, the former showed last season that he is comfortable playing anywhere alongside the frontline.

However, the ex-Juventus star has delivered his best performances as a playmaker for France, with N’Golo Kante out to keep his back.

Liverpool have struggled to replace Georginio Wijnaldum, who left England to join PSG last summer.

Pogba’s characteristics bear much resemblance to Wijnaldum, so it would be unsurprising to see Klopp pursue a deal for the Frenchman.

It all sounds a bit unrealistic, but only time will tell whether Bent has a point.
