Defoe v Pavyluchenko v Bent v Campbell

So, fan favorite Jermain Defoe’s is back at White Hart Lane, so I feel it’s the perfect time to see who really is Tottenham’s key striker….

Defoe:
We all saw what he could do when Harry was getting the best out of him at Portsmouth, and with Pavlyuchenko potentially playing next to him, he could get back to scoring goals very quickly. Spurs have been playing with just the one upfront for the last few months, partly due to the striker shortage, but also because Bent and Pavlyuchenko where too similar under Redknapp’s eyes and couldn’t play together. Campbell was unproven, so he couldn’t be a permanent striker with Pavyluchenko or Bent upfront, but Defoe can, he is a goalscorer, and could go onto form an unstoppable partnership with Pavyluchenko/Bent to the right of him.

Pavyluchenko:
What an awesome last couple of games he has had, he scored magnificent goal against Burnley- and dare I say it… It was Berbatov esc. He always looks confident on the ball, but whether he can be the type of player who holds the ball up is another question completely. He is 6ft 2 inches so height is not an issue; it’s just if he would want to play in that role. Tottenham bought him for many reasons, aswell as because they had to, it was because he scored goals. So if he is just a taller version of Defoe, we are yet to know.

Bent:
He may not be the most skillful player, but he certainly has a knack of getting in the right place at the right time. Most of his goals this season have been scuff shots, but goals nonetheless. Harry has already pointed out that him and Pavyluchenko can’t play together, but would it work with him and Jermain up there? Let’s look at the facts…
Bent: 5ft 11 in
Defoe: 5ft 6.5 in
Bent: 7 goals in the premiership this season
Defoe: 7 goals in the premiership this season

Not concrete evidence, but I’m sure you can see my point, these 2 players are very similar, it’s down to Harry to decide which is better. I very much doubt he would of bought Defoe to sit him on the bench though.

Campbell:
He does a lot of running, that’s for sure. But he isn’t proven, and with Spurs fluttering with relegation, can we take the risk? He has played some games, but the last 20 minutes is the only real time period that he has featured in, and I doubt anyone will say that is long enough. The game he did start in, he got 2, so he will need to have a chance, he must…..
The Verdict:
Defoe and Pavyluchenko are the two strikers that everyone has in mind when you think of Tottenham, and I think that they could work really well together. Bent must be wandering what he has to do to get the spurs fans on his side. He’s scored goals, yet fans still continue to sing Defoe’s name, even before he signed for spurs! I don’t really see how Campbell is going to fit in, a call back from Ferguson may not be such a bad thing.
