Diego Simeone’s Liverpool Goader Posts Viral ‘Assist’ Tweet After Dramatic Champions League Win Over Atletico Madrid

Diego Simeone was shown a red card on the Atletico Madrid touchline last night as his side were beaten 3-2 in a late Liverpool Champions League surge.

The Reds had stormed into an early 2-0 lead, incredibly, in the first six minutes of the European contest.

Andy Robertson had fortuitously sent a Mo Salah free-kick twirling into the back of the net before the Egyptian then beat Jan Oblak himself with a slick finish from a decent run into the box.

The hosts might have thought they could cost to victory from there with new signing Alexander Isak making his first start since forcing his move from Newcastle United with an angry statement last month.

But a brace of goals from Marcos Llorente had the Spanish giants right back into the game and the Spanish full-back sent the crowd into a stunned silence with his 81st minute leveler.

One fan, however, would not sit on his hands with his mouth shut and footage emerged of the punter screaming profanities at both Simeone on the bench as well as the Atleti players who were celebrating the goal they had just scored.

When Virgil van Dijk would eventually pop up with what would be the winner, the highly charged Argentinian manager could hardly control himself as he stormed towards the fan angrily who laughed in his face further.

And it was then that referee Maurizio Mariani brandished the card and sent Simeone back to the changing room.

Clips were found and shared on social media of the moments leading up to Simeone’s head loss, but it was after the fact that the fan headed home and realised he had gone viral.

And that is when the punter claimed an “assist” for the moment in a post which racked up more than 26,000 likes on X and earned plenty of reaction from other supporters.

One said: “You are a legend mate,” as another commented: “Elite housery.”

One fan wrote in response: “You sir are forever a legend, absolutely rattled him.” A fourth added: “Even as a United fan I found this funny as f***, fair play.”

Liverpool boss Arne Slot would undoubtedly have been a relieved man that his squad picked up all three points having surrendered what looked like a comfortable lead from early doors.

What Simeone said after Liverpool red card

While Simeone was left frustrated and a tad embarrassed.

Asked about the situation in his post-match press conference, the boss admitted he did not hold himself to his high standards.

“There have been insults all match, but hey, I’m the one who has to stay calm and endure everything. Insults, gestures,” he told Movistar.

“(Liverpool) been talking about putting on a good show, but they insult you all match from behind and you can’t say anything, because I’m the coach.

“My reaction to the insult isn’t justifiable, but you don’t know what it’s like to be insulted for 90 minutes non-stop.

“And of course, when the opponent’s goal is just around the corner, you turn around and they keep insulting you, and with the tension, what happens is what happens.

“The referee told me he understood, but I hope Liverpool can improve and if they identify who did that, there will be consequences.”
