According to LaStampa, Donadoni has sensationally give the armband to Alex Del Piero to captain the Azzurri to glory this Summer. Del Piero was indeed a favourite to get the captain armband but the fact that it will be tough to break into a regular feature in Donadoni’s starting line-up meant that Buffon was going to get the edge on him. Yet Donadoni believes that Del Piero has the right spirit and motivation to push the team forward. This means that Alessandro Del Piero is nearly guaranteed a place in Italy’s line-up against the Netherlands.
Cannavaro’s early injury meant that Donadoni had to decide who will be Italy’s new captain and the decision is set according to LaStampa who have said that the Bianconeri Captain will captain Italy. Having had exceptional success captaining Juventus this season, this move is seen as a prosperous one for the Azzurri and as Del Piero said, if he was not to captain Italy, there would be other great champions who can do the job as well as him.
