All Downhill for Arsenal since Ibrahimovic turned down Wenger

Zlatan Ibrahimovic the Swedish sensation who recently netted four goals against England this week was previously linked with Wenger’s Arsenal in 2000. Ibrahimovic currently at Paris Saint-Germain turned down the chance to join Arsenal as Wenger wanted him to attend a trial. Ibrahimovic at the time was a teenager netting goals for Malmo FF when Wenger approached him.

Ibrahimovic mentioned to the the Sun that “Arsene gave me the famous red and white jersey – the No 9 shirt with Ibrahimovic on it and I was so pleased I even posed for a picture wearing it.” However Wenger barely even made a decent offer for the Swede and talks broke down and he signed for Dutch club Ajax. Zlatan said “He never actually made me a serious offer, it was more, “I want to see how good you are, what kind of player you are. Have a trial.” Ibrahimovic was not wanted enough by Wenger and Zlatan does not do auditions.

Zlatan said ‘But I knew it wasn’t just Arsenal who wanted me — Roma wanted me and Ajax wanted me. So I said “No” and, in the end, I signed for Ajax instead. It was the perfect choice. At Ajax he began a run of ten consecutive league crowns at Ajax, Juventus, Internazionale, Barcelona and then AC Milan.

Arsenal have yet to repeat what they did in 2003 and 2004 and it would seem that it was a massive opportunity lost for the club as Ibrahimovic simply breeds trophies wherever he goes. The player is known for  his great dribbling skills despite his height. He has scored over 240 goals in his career spanning over five different countries and seven clubs. Ibrahimovic has yet to show his mark in the world’s best league, the Premier League.

Sweden shocked England with a 4-2 win in an international friendly this week with Ibrahimovic netting four goals for Sweden. One of Ibrahimovic’s goal defied geometry as he bi-cycled a kick from Joe Harts clearance header. The last time England conceded a hat-trick was against Netherlands in 1988 by Marco van Basten. This feat will live long into any football fans memory and a breathtaking reminder of the drama of a ball going into a net.
