The newspapers have had a field day- all day Gus Poyet has been linked to Newcastle or confirmed he’s staying at Spurs.

Nearly all of the newspapers have got a view on the subject, and nearly all of their views differ.
The Sun wrote:

GUS POYET is on the brink of becoming Newcastle boss.
Owner Mike Ashley made his move last night as Spurs No 2 Poyet met Toon officials in London.
Poyet, 40, is also close with vice-president Jimenez who played a controversial role in the departure of Keegan.
Spurs boss Juande Ramos will try everything he can to keep Poyet, who has been his No 2 for 11 months.
Right, so according to the Sun the Spurs number2 is on his way out. But Guardian readers seem to have a different view on the subject….
The Guardian wrote…

Tottenham assistant manager Gus Poyet has distanced himself from reports linking him with the vacant managerial position at Newcastle.
Following Kevin Keegan’s departure last week, Poyet was quickly installed as the favourite to take over at St James’ Park primarily due to his long-standing relationship with Newcastle’s director of football Dennis Wise.
But the Spurs man has been quick the dismiss the reports. A press conference is soon to follow.
OK, so the Guardian think he’s staying. I wonder what the Mail think on the subject…?

The Daily Mail…Poyet has a good relationship with Wise and was his assistant manager during the Wise’s time at Leeds and Swindon as well as having played together for Chelsea.
Poyet, who has impressed as the high-profile right hand man of Tottenham manager Juande Ramos, leads the race for the hot seat from Brazilian legend Zico.
Right well that does nothing but complicate the issue further! I think we can quite quickly figure out that the news in the papers is nearly 99% rubbish, but there could be a grain of truth in there somewhere.
I personally, don’t think Poyet will go. I mean, Newcastle aren’t exactly the most stable club in the world right now, are they? I seem to think that he’ll stay as Tottenham’s number2 for as long as Juande is manager and then, when Juande leaves, he’ll become the Spurs manager.
Anyhow, rest assured, when there’s some firm news (like a press conference or something), you’ll be able to read about it here first! 🙂
