England 30-man squad, Carrick out

Carrick out of England squad

Carrick will miss the chance to earn another England cap in the Wednesday friendly against France. He was a surprise exclusion from Capello’s second provisional 30-man squad, considering he played relatively well for Man Utd in recent matches. The Man Utd players who may feature in the match are Wesley Brown, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves. The list of 30 players will have to be reduced further to a 23-man squad, which will travel to Paris for the game. Chelsea have two more players than United in the provisional squad. Beckham has been given the chance to earn his 100th cap in this friendly match, after he missed Capello’s first match in charge of the Three Lions.

The 30-man squad is:

Goalkeepers: James (Portsmouth), Carson (Aston Villa), Kirkland (Wigan)
Defenders: Bridge, A Cole, Terry (Chelsea), Johnson (Portsmouth), Brown, Ferdinand (Man Utd), Lescott (Everton), Wheater (Middlesbrough), Woodgate (Tottenham), Upson (West Ham)
Midfielders: Barry, Young (Aston Villa), Bentley (Blackburn), J Cole, Lampard, Wright-Phillips (Chelsea), Beckham (LA Galaxy), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Man Utd), Downing (Middlesbrough), Jenas (Tottenham)
Forwards: Walcott (Arsenal), Agbonlahor (Aston Villa), Crouch (Liverpool), Rooney (Man Utd), Owen (Newcastle), Defoe (Portsmouth)
