Gary Neville and Mikael Silvestre played in Thursday’s Reserve league game against Manchester City reserves. The defensive duo made huge progress towards their imminent return to first-team action. Neville completed the full 90 minutes in the match against City to give him enough match fitness to start thinking about a return to the first team. Silvestre was substituted on the 76th minute, but he made good progress from a serious knee injury that he suffered in August of last year.

The result of this match was a 4-1 win for Manchester United reserves. Simpson scored one goal while hot prospect Danny Welbeck scored a hat-trick. Neville and Silvestre will contribute more depth in the Man Utd squad, in their bid to go on an 8-match winning run, which would mathematically guarantee them the Barclays Premiership trophy for another season.
