England and Nike unveil 2013 home kit

The new kit supplier for the England national team is Nike after the American brand overtook Umbro in late 2012. Shown below is the official unveiling of the home shirt by the players of the England team including Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard. The shirt was posted on Twitter by Jack Wilshere, with a photo of a pupil at his former school wearing the jersey illustrating the kit belongs to the nation and not just the players.

The shirt is inpsired by a classic design as it features traditional colours of white and dark blue to celebrate the Football Association’s 150th anniversary. The iconic England crest is featured on the shirt now with a gold border and gold star above reflecting England’s 1966 World Cup win and a gold ribbon graphic below with the text ‘150 years’ and dates 1863 and 2013 marking the FA’s anniversary.

The kit weighs 23 percent lighter than previous kits at 150 grams and it boasts a 20 percent stronger knit structure and significantly improved stretch. The fabric is the Dr-FIT technology which draws sweat away from the body through the fabric, keeping players cool and dry. The kit symbolises Nike’s belief in style and pride as well as aiding the performance of players with key technological features.
