Federico Macheda is one of the best youth prospects in the current Manchester United squad. The young Italian is 19 years old and joined Manchester United from Lazio in 2007. He was promoted to the senior squad after spending the 2007/08 season in the Under 18s. In the 2008/09 season, he scored 2 goals in 5 appearance, followed by a goal in 10 appearances in 2009/10. Macheda scored United’s first goal in the match against Aston Villa when United were 2-0 down. He was instrumental in giving United the belief required to get back into the match and finish it with the score of 2-2.
Interest in the young Italian striker is very high, with media reports linking a trio of Italian teams, Milan, Juventus and Roma, with the player. United supporters see Macheda as a fantastic asset for the present and for the future and do not want him to leave the club. In the past, United were left to regret the decision to let Giuseppe Rossi leave, as he became a star for Villareal. Now, Macheda’s agent, Giovanni Bia, has confirmed that selling the striker is not on Manchester United’s or Ferguson’s agenda. His comments with Calciomercato were:
“I was in Manchester two weeks ago and I spoke with Sir Alex Ferguson and a discussion to sell him was not even considered.”
“Ferguson is counting on Macheda, he wanted him at Manchester, he maintains that if everything goes well then Macheda can become one of the strongest.”
“Therefore it is impossible that Manchester United will sell him in January.”
