Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has stated his wish to negotiate a longer contract at the English club. Rio still has two years left on his current contract, but he would like to end his playing career at the Red Devils. Man Utd are willing to sit around a table and discuss with the 1.92m defender, but it is currently finding it difficult, due to the importance of the games left in this season. Ferdinand has been at Man Utd since 2002 when he joined for £18 million from Leeds United. He is considered as a world-class defender and a personality that may one day be the Manchester United and England permanent captain. Having already outlined his desire some time ago to be Man Utd skipper, the Englishman has now clarified his desire to captain his home-nation under the Italian Fabio Capello’s reign.
“I’d like to finish my career at United. The club have made an approach to my agent but there’s so many games it’s difficult to get around the table. By the end of the season, if not sooner, it should be done and dusted.†– Rio Ferdinand (about his Man Utd contract)

“Being given the duty the other day was a real honour for me, I’d love to be the captain of England, who wouldn’t?†– Rio Ferdinand (about the England captaincy)
