Feedback wanted please. As I have a lot of interest in the Football League, I have decided to start up a new feature here on blogsfc. Every Monday or Tuesday I will profile a club from the Football league, therefore it could be a team from the Championship, League 1 or League 2. First up is West Brom…
There were big expectations at the beginning of the season, as newly relegated West Brom were one of the sheer favourites for promotion back to the Premier League. This season they have hit those credentials right on the button, as the Baggies are currently flying high in the Coca Cola Championship. The club are currently 2nd in the table, and it already looks like it will be a three horse race for automatic promotion. Roberto Di Matteo has started well as the West Brom manager, after Tony Mowbray decided to part ways for Scottish club Celtic. Even though Di Matteo’s side suffered a blip earlier this season, they have hit form again, and if they keep this impressive run going, they will surely be promoted back to the Premier League at the first attempt.
Scott Carson, is currently Albion’s first choice goalkeeper, he has kept nine clean sheets in all competitions so far this season. Dean Kiely, is still performing to his high standards for West Brom, the keeper is currently 39 years of age and has featured for eight different teams throughout his football career.
Joe Mattock, was snapped up from fellow Championship club Leicester City, there were big expectations on him to perform for his new club West Brom, however he hasn’t quite adapted to life at the Hawthorns just yet. Jonas Olsson, is currently having a cracking season with West Brom, he is currently the vice captain of the club, plus he has scored five goals from defence this season. Marek Cech, is predominantly a left-back, however he can also play left-wing, he is currently a Slovakian international, who has appeared 29 times for his current club. Gianni Zuiverloon, is the first choice right-back for West Bromwich Albion, the Holland born player is only 23 years of age, so far throughout his short career he has been capped seventeen times for the Holland Under 21’s. Abdoulaye Meite, is currently in his 2nd season with the Baggies, he joined the club last season from Premier League side Bolton, plus this season manager Roberto Di Matteo, has praised the Meite and Olsson defensive partnership. Gabriel Tamas, joined the Baggies on New year’s day this year, he didn’t have the best of debuts as he was clearly struggling to tame the Notts Forest defence, however hopefully he can finish his loan spell on a high note. Gonzalo Jara, was brought as a centre-back by the current West Brom manager, however Jara has converted into a defensive midfielder, the 24 year old has clearly proven to be a decent buy for the West Midlands club, and his only goal this season was a screamer in a 2-1 away win against Leicester City.
Robert Koren, is currently a Slovenian international playing for West Brom, there were rumours earlier in the season that he was set to move clubs in the January transfer window, however Koren has decided to stay with the Baggies at least until the end of the season. Chris Brunt, usually starts on the left-wing for West Brom, he has scored some cracking goals while playing for the Albion, plus this season he has seven goals beside his name. Giles Barnes, has only recently signed for West Brom from Derby County. Jerome Thomas, is a winger known for his predominant pace, he is a very skilful player and this season he has been a huge hit in a West Brom shirt. Graham Dorrans, is currently the top scorer for West Brom this season, the attacking midfielder has scored twelve times, however half of his goals have come from the penalty spot, Dorrans is also a Scotland international. Youssuf Mulumbu, is the heart and soul of the West Brom’s midfield, Mulumbu was snapped up from French Ligue 1 side, Paris St Germain, this season he has proven to be the driving force in West Brom’s midfield. James Morrison, is a vital asset to the West Brom side, however he has missed most of this season through injury. Andwele Slory, was signed by Roberto Di Matteo on the January transfer deadline day, Slory is the 2nd Dutch player at the club, and also the midfielder has already featured twice in a West Brom shirt.
Roman Bednar, has had a very decent season, as he has scored eight goals for the Baggies in the 09/10 campaign, the striker is known for his power, his finishing and his heading. Ishmael Miller, has only recently started playing again after damaging his cruciate ligament last season, he hasn’t scored yet this season, however I am sure that Miller will score a goal sometime soon. Chris Wood, rose onto the scene this season, after coming up from the West Brom youth ranks, he was a regular acquisition at the beginning of this season, also he has scored two goals for West Brom, one of which was a scorcher against Doncaster. Luke Moore, was signed by former manager Tony Mowbray, after he had a short loan spell with the club, this season though Moore has featured 21 times for the Baggies, scoring four goals in the process. Simon Cox, was snapped up by Di Matteo in the summer transfer window, it took Cox quite a bit of time to settle at West Brom; however he has finally found his feet at the club, as he has scored eight goals so far this season. Frank Nouble, has just signed on a one month’s loan from Premier League side West Ham.
