Gallas wants Italy out

Gallas

I’m starting to like this French guy after the comments he made this month. I’m not a fan of William, because whenever he faced Man Utd, he was playing for an arch-rival: first Chelsea then Arsenal. But in this edition of the European tournament, I’ll be supporting him to turn his words into action!

Gallas said that the French team, including himself, are determined to eliminate Italy from the Championship, as revenge for the World Cup Final defeat against them. In that same match, the infamous headbutt of Zidane on Materazzi, after the latter provoked him by mentioning his mother and sister, meant the shameful end to a French legend’s career.

The Blues are still infuriated at this episode and want to exert the building rivalry when the two teams lock horns on the 17th June. It will be the last game of Group C, played at 20:45 (CET), and potentially a group decider. If Italy fail to get a result against the Netherlands, France may have the ability to eliminate them from the competition by registering a win.

“The match against Italy has some ill-feeling attached to it because of the 2006 World Cup. For many of our guys, that final is still very much with them.”

“To win and to knock out the Italians would be perfect, but it is necessary to play with the head, not just the heart.” – William Gallas
