Rangers are closing in on their first signing of the transfer window with Burnley’s forward Chris Eagles heading to Glasgow this evening for talks. Burnley confirmed this afternoon that the clubs were in negotiations and the fee is expected to reach around £1m.

The 24-year-old was part of the Burnley side that was relegated last season from the English Premier League but he has attracted interest from the Scottish Champions and a number of English teams including Blackpool and Bolton. Eagles could be ideal for the Gers as he fits the role of a wide-midfielder, a position Walter Smith has admitted he needs to strengthen.
On the way out, Kevin Thomson could confirm his £2m move to Middlesbrough tomorrow.
