Giggs: Chicharito reminds me of Solskjaer

One of the veteran players of Manchester United, and one of the senior players that football youngsters seek to emulate, Ryan Giggs, has heaped praise on summer signing Javier Hernandez. The Mexican 22-year old player joined the Red Devils from Chivas Guadalajara in a deal concluded on the 8th April. He joined the club officially on the 1st July and impressed in pre-season. He then continued to impress by scoring United’s second goal in the FA Community Shield 3-1 victory against Chelsea. Chicharito, as he is nicknamed, meaning Little Pea, scored his first European goal in the last minutes of the mid-week Champions League 1-0 victory against Valencia.

Giggs said he found it hard to contain his excitement about the Mexican and compared him to Manchester United super-sub Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. After being a star in the World Cup and impressing for the club, Giggs stated that he expects Hernandez to enjoy a similar career to that of Solskjaer. His comments were:

“It’s hard not to get too excited by a player like Javier. We’ve seen it over the years. You can get excited by players and build them up. But I was genuinely excited in pre-season, seeing what he could do.”

“Javier’s just a natural finisher and they don’t come along that often. You saw that when he scored against Valencia, it was just a great goal. His first touch was great as was his finish. It was just instinctive and when you’ve got that, you’ll score an awful lot of goals.”

“He was only on for about 15 minutes but in that time he hit the post, ran through onto a cross when their keeper saved it, and he’s just a dangerous player. Ole had every finish – left foot, right foot, headers, the lot. And Javier’s goal reminded me a little bit of Ole, just because he always used to hit the side netting low and hard, whether it was with his right foot or left foot, and so it was similar in that respect.”
