Giovinco and co. send Italy to Final

Italy 0 (5) – 0 (4) Japan – Toulon Youth Festival Semi-Final

A brilliant performance by a skillful Italy side saw Italy beat Japan 5-4 on penalties in a thrilling Semi-Final. Although Italy had the better of the game, Japan offered a good challenge and at times looked to be deadly up front. The Japanese fans made their voice sound in the beginning of the first half, with Japan being entitled to a goal-kick and the mad fans cheering their goalkeeper to take it as if it was a vital penalty :D. It was Italy though who really possessed the threat and with Giovinco, Osvaldo, Marchisio, Nocerino and all the others, Italy seemed to take the lead within moments but poor finishing meant the game ended 0-0. Substitute Abate had the chance to wrap it up after running from his own side to dribbling past the Japanese defender and then only to screw his shot. Furthermore, Giovinco dazzled his opponents and came one-on-one with the goalkeeper only to pass the ball to his team-mate who was covered with Japanese players…. Giovinco’s runs and skills definitely made him a player to relish for all Bianconeri fans for next season and he is surely going to be a star player in the future. With Japan having their penalty saved by the Italy keeper, it was up to Giovinco to wrap it up and he scored the fifth penalty to send Italy through to the Final of the Toulon Festival against Chile on Thursday.
