A game which saw a first defeat for Angola in this year’s competition. That defeat along with Sudan’s victory sees Angola out by virtue or goal difference which is incredibly unlucky.
Ivory Coast had opted to rest many of their main stars such as Yaya Toure and Gervinho for this tie as they had already qualified. Angola needed to avoid defeat to make it through to the knockout stage of the competition.
Angola gifted Ivory Coast the lead after they failed to clear a fizzing ball across the box and Emmanuel Eboue was there to poke home at the far post. Angola had to now go and get a goal it was simple; score and stay in the competition. They failed to grab a goal and some more poor defending for Angola gifted Wilfred Bony the easiest goal he will ever score.
A poor back header looped over the keeper to leave Bony with an open goal to seal the win for the Ivoirians’. Angola rarely threatened however Manucho did try to test the Ivorian keeper but with no reward.
Angola began the tournament well but left themselves with a lot to do after a disappointing draw against Sudan in their second group game.
