Jamie Vardy has been given the Everton transfer seal of approval by club legend Alan Stubbs.
The veteran frontman, 38, is coming towards the end of his career having left Leicester City at the end of last season.
Vardy’s goal scoring record speaks for itself and he has notched 145 Premier League goals throughout his career. That is 200 strikes in all competitions for the Foxes more generally while he has also lifted the FA Cup, EPL title and the Championship trophy twice.
The attacker still feels he has years left in the tank and Stubbs believes he could do a job for David Moyes’ Toffees if given the shot.
Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Stubbs was asked if the freebie would be a strong option that should be considered by Moyes if the chance presents itself.
And the Scouser said: “One-hundred per cent.
Jamie Vardy backed to make Everton transfer
“He is very different to what we have got, as well. We have got two very similar strikers, two big lads but we haven’t got anyone who is that direct and, most importantly, proven goal scorers.
“If you look at the players we have got, Iliman Ndiaye, Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall are looking to slide in balls down the side and want a clever player to run onto them.
“I’ve got to be honest, Vardy is a perfect player for Everton right now.”
Former Rangers and Sunderland striker Ally McCoist also chimed in and agreed with the retired defender. He added: “Stubbsy, I think it is a no-brainer and a contrast in what you have got.
“Vardy plays on the shoulder, still got his pace and would be perfect.”
Everton could face Celtic transfer rivalry for Vardy
Everton recently signed Jack Grealish from Manchester City on loan and the Englishman would surely find Vardy to be the perfect candidate to receive his crosses into the box.
But the Foxes icon could be forced to choose between Everton and a different opportunity which could be a trip to Scotland.
Scottish Premiership giants and current league title holders Celtic are reportedly interested in Vardy and the striker is seemingly equally as intrigued about a move north of the border.
We told you earlier today how a Scottish Sun ‘source’ claimed Vardy had his “heart set on the Hoops” which would throw a spanner into the works of any possible Toffees attempt.
What Vardy thinks of Celtic transfer
Their source told them: “Jamie still believes he can play week in week out and has a lot to offer.
“He’s a model professional and is keeping himself in great condition.
“He’d love to move to Celtic and really has his heart set on that move.
“He loved playing under Brendan and thinks he could be a massive benefit to the team up there. In fact, ever since it became clear Celtic were up for the deal Jamie’s been desperate to make it happen.
“But other clubs are keen to so time will tell. But one thing is for sure he won’t be without a team at the end of August.”
