The League Two club with a better set-piece record than Arsenal

Arsenal have been the king of set pieces in the Premier League for several years now.

With 14 set-piece goals in the Premier League so far this season, barely a week goes by without seeing the TV cameras pan to Arsenal’s set-piece coach Nicolas Jover on the touchline.

In a game of small margins, Mikel Arteta has been ahead of the curve in utilising dead-ball situations to maximise his team’s chances.

It’s a record that will surely continue to improve after the Gunners signed throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark, adding even more expertise to their dead-ball department.

However, whilst the Gunners set the bar for Premier League sides, one team from League Two is giving Arsenal a run for their money.

Bromley have scored the most goals from set-pieces since the start of last season

Bromley have been enjoying their football in League Two this season. Under the guidance of manager Andy Woodman, the Ravens are six-points clear at the top of the table – but it’s their set-piece record that catches the eye.

Since being promoted to the EFL at the start of the 2024/25 season, Bromley have scored an astonishing 58 goals from set-pieces.

That’s six more than any other club from the Premier League and EFL in the same time period – and 27 goals more than Arsenal have managed.

Whilst the data may be skewed by the fact that EFL clubs play eight more games per season than the Premier League, it does not make it any less impressive.

In fact, they are currently averaging nearly one set-piece per game, with 25 of those goals coming in just 27 games this season – accounting for 52.7% of all their goals since the start of last season.

Striker Michael Cheek a key beneficiary of set-piece focus

One man who has benefited from Bromley’s focus on set-pieces is Michael Cheek.

The veteran striker has scored 19 goals from set-pieces since the start of last season – five more than Derby’s Carlton Morris.

It’s a tactic that has propelled the 34-year-old to 39 goals in England’s top five divisions since the start of last season – only Erling Haaland (42) has scored more.

Andy Woodman taking inspiration from NFL “playbook”

Speaking to Sky Sports, manager Woodman said his side’s record is not down to luck.

“If you take the lead from the NFL, everyone knows the playbook in the NFL. It’s no different with set-pieces. Everyone’s got to know their job. The end result is no coincidence”

Bromley fans won’t care where the tactics came from. As long as they keep scoring from set-pieces, they could be playing League One football for the first time in their history.
