Liverpool Face Nervous Wait On Fitness Of Two Stars Ahead Of Wolves Clash

Arne Slot Liverpool injury update

Arne Slot has given the latest Liverpool injury update ahead of Saturday’s game against Wolves, with two stars facing late fitness tests.

Both Conor Bradley and Cody Gakpo are in a race against time to make the weekend’s festive Premier League fixture.

Gakpo has been out for the past three games with a muscle issue, while Bradley was forced off during Saturday’s 2-1 win at Tottenham after sustaining an ankle injury.

But it looks like both could now be available against Wolves.

Reds boss Arne Slot has given the pair a “50-50” chance of featuring on Saturday.

As the injuries pile up heading to the transfer market for reinforcements may be necessary.

Liverpool agreed terms with Anntoine Semenyo earlier this week, suggesting a move could be imminent.

But for this weekend, they will be praying both Gakpo and Bradley make it into the match day squad.

Arne Slot Says Liverpool Duo Could Feature Against Wolves

Speaking during Tuesday’s press conference, Slot told reporters that both Bradley and Gakpo are tough-and-go for the weekend.

“Conor [Bradley] will be 50-50. He’s not training with us today, not tomorrow,” Slot explained

“So Friday we will see exactly where he is, if he can be in the squad yes or no for the weekend.

“Joe [Gomez] won’t be available. Wata [Endo] won’t be available. Cody [Gakpo], a bit similar to Conor.”

And the Dutch coach also discussed Florian Wirtz, who came off the bench in the closing stages against Spurs.

Slot said: “[Wirtz is] Another example of a player who has to play a lot.

“He’s adjusting better and better and better to the Premier League, but in an ideal world maybe I could have rested him a little bit more.

“But OK, he will be there for us again on Saturday.”

With so many regulars missing, including after Alexander Isak’s leg fracture risked ending his season, Slot now has just 13 senior outfield players available – including youngsters Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha.

Liverpool will therefore need to fill the bench with academy players once again against Wolves.

Jeremie Frimpong In Line To Start

With Bradley a major doubt, it seems likely that Jeremie Frimpong will be called upon from the start.

Slot added: “At the weekend he [Frimpong] was on a maximum of 30 minutes, because he’s been out for quite long.

“I think he’s able to start this weekend, if I make that decision.

“And sometimes situations changed. So you need to take a bit more risk than you would maybe usually do if everyone was available.

“That’s what I mean with the players that are available having to roll their sleeves up, including our fans, to get the best possible chance of a good outcome in the upcoming two games.

“That’s, for him, the same as the others.”
