Sky Sport believe new Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is looking into the possibility of picking up Bayern Munich captain Mark van Bommel in the January transfer market.
The Dutch midfielder is out of contract in the summer and is currently followed by a host of potential buyers around Europe, and Dalglish is keen to join the party for the 33 year old.
But Liverpool may have their work cut out to secure van Bommel’s signature. His agent Mino Raiola says that playing at Anfield is not currently top of his client’s list.
“I know about Liverpool’s interest, but other offers are currently more interesting.”
“I have got to find Mark the perfect club and we still have enough time for that. There is no rush we negotiations – I still have to do a good job.”
But The Sun say that Tottenham is another potential suitor for van Bommel, with current Spurs Dutchman Rafael van der Vaart encouraging Harry Redknapp to bring his international teammate to White Hart Lane.
“Mark is a super player with lots of experience who would help any team,” said van der Vaart.
”Tottenham want to take the next step to get to the same level as Arsenal. I think it is possible.”
AC Milan, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Inter are all believed to be chasing van Bommel.
