Man City – March Player of the Month

As the month of March draws to a conclusion, what better time than now to vote for your player of the month. The past month has been a mixed affair for the Blues, with impressive victories against Aston Villa and AaB Aalborg interspersed with disappointing defeats away to West Ham and Chelsea. The record for this month stands at played six, won three and lost three, and City will need to improve on this if they are to fulfill their dreams if reaching seventh place. Below, I will list some players whose performances have been head and shoulders above the rest; those who are contenders for this months award. Please vote at the bottom of the page, and the winner will be revealed shortly.

Richard Dunne

Following a worryingly shaky start to the season, club captain Dunne has returned to his previous best with a string of superb performances at the heart of City’s defence. Particularly impressive in the home defeat of Aston Villa, where he nullified the considerable threat of Emile Heskey, John Carew and Gabriel Agbonlahor, the Irish international has been a rock, leading by example, and confirming his status as one of the Premier League’s most underrated players. (cue debate)

Elano

A surprising choice, but I feel that his recent performances have justified this recognition. He produced a sparkling performance in the defeat of Aston Villa, and followed this up with some more competent showings as the month progressed. His penalty in the UEFA Cup shootout against AaB Aalborg was one of the best spot-kicks ever taken, and with the Brazilian finally seeming settled, there is no reason why he cannot go from strength to strength .

Nedum Onuoha

The injury-prone youngster, having progressed from the famed City academy, has come on leaps and bounds in March, finally stringing a run of games together. Alongside Dunne at the back, he has been a calm and collected figure, making umpteen last-ditch saving tackles, and looking a significant threat from set-pieces. He was man of the match in the loss to Chelsea, and has excelled in all the games this month. Now the captain of the England Under 21’s, his next objective will be to break into the senior squad.

Micah Richards

He endured a difficult and challenging start to the season in central defence, but has looked much more assured at right-back, where he has ample opportunity to get forward and use his undoubted pace and power. Some fine performances culminated in the winning goal against Sunderland, and he needs to keep this improvement going to catch the eye of Fabio Capello.

Shaun Wright-Phillips

SWP has been unusually prolific this month, notching goals against Aston Villa and Aab Aalborg, with the latter being particularly special. He has shown pace and agility all the time, and has now seemed to add an end product to his game. Struggled towards the end of the month with an injury, but he should recover in time for the next match, away at Arsenal.

So, there are your choices: please vote below.
