Manchester City and Fiorentina agree deal for Stevan Jovetic

Manchester City have agreed to sign striker Stevan Jovetic from Italian Side Fiorentina for a deal reported to be worth up to £28million.

The hugely talented 23 year old has constantly been linked with the larger European clubs, including Manchester United and Arsenal, but finally looks set to make the move after five successful seasons with La Viola. Fiorentina’s official Twitter account, @AFC_Fiorentina, confirmed the deal, claiming “An agreement has been reached with Manchester City Football Club for the permanent sale of the player Stevan Jovetic”. The deal is said to be worth an initial £23million, rising to £28million in bonus payments, of course still depending on Jovetic accepting a contract offer.

The 6ft 1 Jovetic is now new City manager Pellegrini’s third confirmed signing after the heavy spending on Fernandinho (£30million) and Jesus Navas (£15million), and with the likely signing of Alvaro Negredo looking set to be confirmed within the next week, City’s summer spending is close to approaching the £100million mark.

With Tevez moving on to Juventus, and City still not having replaced Balotelli, this signing looks like a very shrewd investment by City. Despite being just 23 years old, Jovetic has a wealth of experience in European football, beginning his career with Partizan aged just 16. He then went on to make his international debut a year later, and made a move to Italy for £8million in 2008. During his time in Italy he bagged 40 goals in 134 games, and has proven a success in whichever position he is deployed, usually as a lone striker with the ability to play just behind the front men.

With new manager Pellegrini at the helm, and the new signings being secured early, City will be looking to reclaim the title from their fierce rivals Manchester United. With the amount of transfer activity at the Etihad, and the new fresh and calm approach around the camp, City fans seem to have a lot to look forward to for the upcoming season.
