Preview: Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur – Prediction, Team News, Line-ups

pep guardiola manchester city injury update

Manchester City and Tottenham do battle in Premier League action this weekend with both sides filled with confidence.

City wiped the floor with Wolves at Molyneux in what was a 4-0 hammering of their opponents on matchday one. While that was going on Spurs dismantled newly promoted Burnley on home soil and laid down a marker for Thomas Frank’s side moving forward.

Neither side would have picked the other for matchday two, we suspect, but it should be an entertaining 90 or so minutes of action for punters nevertheless.

The hosts had new midfielder Tijjani Reijnders on red hot form last week and he put on a show for his new fans to get excited about. He will surely start again at the Etihad this time for his home debut.

Pep Guardiola wants to trim his squad and could use this weekend as an opportunity to prepare for that by leaving some of his fringe men out of the picture.

Spurs target Savinho won’t feature as he is injured but he would arguably have been left out anyway due to the speculation surrounding his future.

For Thomas Frank’s Spurs they started with a victory and will be looking to maintain their confidence levels despite losing a penalty shootout before that in their UEFA Super Cup Final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. It was a closely contested finale.

Richarlison, seemingly back at it for his club, notched a terrific double vs the Clarets and looked the part. His bicycle kick would not have hurt either.

Frank is in the market for new recruits with Spurs missing out on Eberechi Eze but the likes of Mohammed Kudus being available and on form should help their chances in what is traditionally one of the toughest away days of the season.

Manchester City vs Tottenham team news

City will be without their injured maestro Rodri but they are also without a number of other players for the game.

Ederson – a Galatasaray target – is ill, Mateo Kovacic and Savinho are both out while Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol are doubtful.

James Trafford should retain his number one spot between the sticks.

For Spurs they are without James Maddison who tore his ACL earlier in pre-season. They will also be missing Radu Dragusin, Dejan Kulusevski, Bryan Gil, Manor Solomon and Kota Takai.

Yves Bissouma and Destiny Udogie could return despite missing Burnley.
