Pedro Mendes is set to complete a move to Sporting Lisbon this afternoon in a deal worth £1.5m.
Mendes was a fans favourite at Ibrox
Mendes, 30 joined Rangers from Portsmouth for £2.5m last season and immediately became a fans favourite with a stunning goal at Celtic Park in the 4-2 win, which he will be remembered most for. Mendes made 46 appearances for Rangers since his move from Fratton Park scoring 4 goals. The departure of Mendes has come as a surprise to many Rangers fans after manager Walter Smith confirmed there would be no transfer business in the window. Although, Rangers’ financial situation is tight, Smith confirmed at a press conference today a new signing could be a possibility.
The £1.5m transfer is subject to Mendes passing a medical at Sporting.
