Newcastle United Blasted by Own Fans After Bournemouth Ticket Row; ‘Question for David Hopkinson’

Newcastle United have been blasted by a small section of their own support following a ticket issue at Bournemouth over the weekend.

Supporters of the Magpies made the long journey from Tyneside to the Vitality Stadium to take in their side’s goalless draw with Bournemouth in the Premier League.

It was a drab affair with very few chances created, especially from Eddie Howe’s visitors which would have disappointed the travelling punters whose trip was lengthy and began early morning.

But what would have been even more frustrating for some supporters when they arrived at the ground following 700 mile round trip would have been the fact that their match tickets were allegedly deactivated.

According to the Newcastle United Supporters’ Club, around 60 fans had their briefs for the fixture checked and cross checked with ID before they were permitted to enter the stadium.

They have accused their own club of deactivating briefs before fans were alerted when they arrived.

Newcastle accused by Supporters’ Club of ‘deactivating tickets’

And they called for action from the club as well as new chief executive David Hopkinson who has only just got his feet under the desk following his start in the job earlier this month.

The NUSC took to their social media accounts to air their frustrations and call out the club for allowing their fanbase to travel before discovering their fate.

And they demanded better communication.

They posted on X: “Disappointed to hear of 60 ticket ID checks today and no Supporter Services representative present.

“Longest Premier League away trip, rail engineering works and coaches leaving through the early hours of the morning.

“Fans not criminals.”

In response to replies, the admin added: “We are the only club that deliberately deactivate tickets and the supporter isn’t aware until it is scanned at the turnstile.

“Lots of clubs use a form of ticket checks but, to our knowledge, we are the only club that deliberately deactivate tickets and don’t inform the supporter prior to scanning the ticket.

“Clubs usually notify the supporter in advance that they must collect a ticket.

“Action is needed.”

Outlet One Football also added: “Maybe our new fan-friendly NUFC CEO David Hopkinson will get on the case. Indeed, the entire home and away ticketing is a shambles and needs care and attention and fairness.

“Actions speak louder than words, it is all yours David.”

Newcastle’s season has not started too well under Howe so far as they sit 13th in the division with just one win and three draws from five outings.

The clash with Bournemouth – against Manchester United manager target Andoni Iraola’s side – would have been an ideal opportunity to change their fortunes.

The Cherries, however, have started their own campaign on hot form with 10 points from their first five matches.
