 Stoke started the pre-season in a gentle manner with a 3-0 win over neighbours Newcastle Town at the Lyme Valley Stadium. Richard Cresswell opened the scoring for city after 15 minutes before Jon Parkin made it two with a good strike on the half hour. Young forward Adam Rooney made it three on 66 minutes. New signing Dave Kitson did not feature.
 The match provides a promising yet unsurprising victory before the squad fly to the Austrian training camp at Bad Ausee tomorrow, where friendly matches will be played against German second division side Nuremberg and the Bahrain national team.
