Raul Jimenez has explained the thinking behind his penalty technique after equalling the perfect Premier League record held by Manchester City legend Yaya Toure.
The Fulham striker scored from 12 yards in Monday’s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest, moving to 11 successful Premier League penalties from 11 attempts – matching former City midfielder Toure’s flawless conversion rate.
Jimenez and Toure are now the only two players in Premier League history to have taken at least 10 penalties and never failed to score.

Raul Jimenez explains his penalty technique
Speaking after Monday’s game, Jimenez explained that he deliberately waits for the goalkeeper to commit before placing his penalties.
“It’s always what I do,” he said. “I do it well, so it’s something I have been training my whole career. I like to have this pressure with these penalties. I’m happy to score.
“I’ve never missed a penalty in the Premier League. I’m really happy about that, so I want to keep doing it like that. More penalties to come, I’ll be there.”
Rather than using a long run-up for maximum power, Jimenez likes to start his process inside the D, often staggering his forward movement and using that extra time to focus on the goalkeeper.
Fulham boss Marco Silva also highlighted the composure that defines Jimenez’s approach, calling it “crucial”.
Silva added: “He’s a great penalty taker and not just in a Fulham shirt.
“The calmness, the quality, the braveness to go until the last moment and of course when the goalkeeper doesn’t move of course its the moment for him to be very assertive in the way he’s going to take, he’s a great taker and very reliable.
“He needed a goal, he’s not in his best in terms of confidence but the reality is that the last four games at home he’s scored twice and both goals have given us the win.”
Raul Jimenez’s Premier League penalty record
Jimenez’s 11 perfect Premier League penalties have come while playing for Wolves and Fulham.
His first Premier League spot-kick was dispatched in November 2018 when he beat Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris in a 3-2 loss while playing for Wolves.
He has now scored past 10 different Premier League goalkeepers from the spot. The only one he has beaten more than once is Christian Walton, with Jimenez scoring two penalties against Ipswich in the same match.
The table below shows all 11 of his successful Premier League penalties and the goalkeepers he scored past.

Raul Jimenez’s overall career penalty record is not quite perfect
Although Jimenez boasts a perfect penalty record in the Premier League, he has failed to convert two spot-kicks over the course of his entire career.
In total, Jimenez has taken 44 penalties in all competitions. He has scored 42, had two saved and has never missed the target.
His first saved penalty came while playing for Mexico in a 2018 international friendly against Uruguay. Fernando Muslera was the goalkeeper who thwarted him that day.
Jimenez’s first spot-kick failure at club level was with Wolves in the quarter-finals of the 2019/20 UEFA Europa League when he was denied by Sevilla stopper Yassine Bounou.
Despite those two unconverted efforts, Jimenez’s overall career conversion rate from penalties of 95.45% is still elite.
For context, Harry Kane’s penalty conversion rate is 89.09%, Cristiano Ronaldo’s is 83.64%, while Lionel Messi’s is just 78.08%.
Jimenez, Kane, Ronaldo and Messi are all expected to feature at the 2026 World Cup in North America. FootballBlog.co.uk recently ran an in-depth 2026 World Cup simulation. Kane’s England side came third, after Ronaldo’s Portugal beat Jimenez’s Mexico in the round of 16.
