Real Madrid Prepare Special Plan to Get Dean Huijsen Back to His Best

Dean Huijsen

Real Madrid fitness coach Antonio Pintus has reportedly prepared a special fitness plan to get Dean Huijsen back to his best.

Huijsen got off to an impressive start at the FIFA Club World Cup in June, but his form has declined as the season progressed.

The former Bournemouth man has suffered from calf and muscular injuries since moving to the Santiago Bernabeu, missing eight matches across LaLiga and the Champions League.

However, Huijsen has been playing regularly since January 2026, and the player has admitted he is feeling better.

After playing the full 90 minutes in Real Madrid’s 6-1 victory over AS Monaco in the Champions League, the Spanish centre-back said:

I’ve had a lot of injuries, but now I think I feel good physically. I’ve been injured for two or three months, and I couldn’t sprint well. I’m happy to be feeling good.

The level I’ve been giving wasn’t my level, and I think today I’ve given the level, and I have to continue like that.

Renowned Spanish journalist Guillermo Rai has also confirmed that Huijsen is fully fit and is operating at peak capacity.

Real Madrid Prepare Special Fitness Plan for Dean Huijsen

However, Real Madrid fitness coach Antonio Pintus believes Dean Huijsen still has more to offer. And he has designed a special fitness plan to help him get there. Having fully recovered from his injury, Huijsen is looking forward to unlocking his best under Pintus’ guidance.

The month of February is crucial for Huijsen, as it is the final window to get in top shape for the last leg of the season.

If Real Madrid beat Benfica in their last Champions League league-phase outing on Wednesday night, they will directly qualify for the Round of 16. This means they will avoid the February play-offs and the two extra matches they had to play last season.

During the month, Los Blancos will have to play only one match per week.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Pintus has planned to do a special mini-preseason for Huijsen. According to Defensa Central, the plan is to help him recharge and approach every game with full intensity.

The special sessions will focus on recovery and helping him unlock all his strength. Alvaro Arbeloa sees Huijsen as an integral asset, essential not only for defensive solidity but also for building attacks.

This will not be the first time that Pintus has done it at Real Madrid. He worked with Kylian Mbappe last season and helped him reach stratospheric heights in 2025. Mbappe outscored Erling Haaland and Harry Kane in 2025 and matched Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid record.

Pintus has also helped Eder Militao and Thibaut Courtois regain their fitness and confidence after long injury lay-offs.
