Rooney sent to the States for rehabilitation

In order to recover from the ankle injury that has hampered his form in the current season, Manchester United have sent star striker Wayne Rooney to the United States. It is now confirmed that the striker, which has just signed a £13 million per season contract to stay at Old Trafford and bury reports linking him to other clubs (including Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid), will not feature in the Derby of Manchester between United and City. Himself having problems with his wife Coleen after an extra-marital affair, Rooney has already been given time off to go on holiday to Dubai to resolve the issue with his wife.

Fans of United did not appreciate the fact that Rooney came out saying that he wanted to leave, especially after the support he has always received from the club faithful. Some fans have vowed never to forgive him. Manchester United are hoping that after the period in the United States, Rooney would come back 100% fit to be available for selection and bring out his top form again which last season terrorised all defences as he scored 34 goals in 44 appearances. Rooney will be in USA in Nike Town between the 6th November and the 13th November, so he will miss the derby to be played on Wednesday 10th November. This season, Rooney has made seven appearances in which he scored just one goal. The USA rehabilitation week was confirmed officially by United Number Two Mike Phelan on the official team website:

“Wayne won’t be involved [on Saturday]. What we’re intending to do with Wayne is send him to Nike Town in America for a week’s conditioning training. We’ve decided, in consultation with Wayne, our medical team, the manager and the coaching staff that that’s that will be the best for Wayne. He’ll go on Saturday [November 6] and return the following Saturday. If that goes according to plan then obviously he’ll be available when he returns.”

“We have the facilities here but we felt it might be in his interests and the club’s to have a change of scenery for a while. He’s had a lot of attention lately so we’re going to give him the best opportunity that we possibly can for him to be in good shape when he returns. We want to create an environment for him that will give him the best opportunity to be fit in a short space of time. He needs the conditioning and he can go there without the attention he’d get around here.”
